The curriculum

Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born. The care and education offered by our Pre-school helps children to continue to do this by providing all of the children with interesting activities that are right for their age and stage of development.

For all the children within our group the pre-school provides a curriculum for the foundation stage of education. We follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2012)

The guidance divides children’s learning and development into three prime areas:

  • personal, social and emotional development;
  • communication and language;
  • physical development.

And four specific areas;

  • mathematics;
  • understanding the world;
  • literacy
  • expressive arts and design.

For each area, the guidance sets out early learning goals. These goals state what most children should know and be able to do by the end of the reception year of their education.

We make a book for each child to record their progress in chronological order, using photos, pieces of their work and staff observations.( My Learning Journey) This provides information for the staff to plan sessions to include suitable activities and resources to enable the children to move forward and is yours to keep when your child leaves us. We encourage children and their families to look at these books and to add information to them so that the child is proud of their journey book.
